Audition Notice

SWAN LAKE IN BLUE AUDITION NOTICE

Greater Boston Stage Company is pleased to announce auditions for Swan Lake in Blue. Composed and created by Steve Bass, Swan Lake in Blue revolutionizes the concept of traditional ballet with an all-new jazz score for a 17-piece big band and 9 - 11 tap and jazz dancers. Set in 1930’s Harlem, New York, Swan Lake in Blue tells the story of a Broadway producer who falls in love with a burlesque dancer, only to find out she is owned by the mob and forced to perform nightly at The Swan Club. Story adapted from Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake. Choreography and direction by Ilyse Robbins.

Rehearsals begin January 21st and will take place either at The Dance Inn, 1403 Massachusetts Avenue, Lexington or Greater Boston Stage Company, 395 Main Street, Stoneham. The show runs for 15 performances from February 13 – March 1, 2020.

Auditions will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2019 from 3:30 - 5:30pm at The Dance Inn, 1403 Massachusetts Avenue, Lexington, MA. Please bring tap shoes and character shoes. You will be expected to stay for the entire group time.

Cast Breakdown:

Florenz Siegfried - The main protagonist of the story. He is handsome, confident, and professional. He runs a dance company and is holding auditions for his latest Broadway production. He is looking for a male counterpart, and most importantly, a leading lady. Extremely strong tap including partnering. Male identifying: 25 – 40; Any ethnicity.

Catherine Odette - Beautiful, innocent, and shy. She is in an abusive relationship with Jimmy Van Rothbart, a mob boss and nightclub owner of The Swan Club. He forces her to star as “The White Swan” in a degrading, burlesque show at the club. Extremely strong tap and jazz. Female identifying: 20 – 30; Any ethnicity.

Jimmy Van Rothbart - Ruthless, cruel, and menacing. He is a dangerous mob boss and criminal. He is the owner of The Swan Club, a nightclub featuring a racy burlesque show of women dressed as swans. Extremely strong tap. Male identifying: 35 – 55; Any ethnicity.

The Little Swans - Odette’s two backup dancers at The Swan Club. They are rough around the edges. Extremely strong tap and jazz. Female identifying: 20 – 30; Any ethnicity.

Ben Kelly - Siegfried’s dance assistant. Extremely strong tap. Male identifying: 20 – 30; Any ethnicity.

Nicky Odile - Alluring and seductive. She is one of Van Rothbart’s mistresses. Extremely strong tap and jazz. Female identifying: 20 – 30; Any ethnicity.

Ensemble - The dancers auditioning for Siegfried / The audience members at The Swan Club. Extremely strong tap. Male and Female identifying. 15 – 30; Any ethnicity.
