Frequently Asked Questions

What is appropriate dance attire?
Students aged 3 - 18 MUST wear leotard, tights or dance pants, and appropriate dance shoes. Hair must be off the face if long. Please label shoes and outerwear. Check below or with the studio for specific shoe recommendations. No specific leotard color or style is required for tap, jazz or pre-school classes, but please avoid attached skirts. If skirts are worn they must not hang below the knee. Boys are to wear white t-shirts and black dance pants or shorts. Technique students require standard ballet attire of black leotard, pink tights and pink ballet slippers.

In some instances, it is necessary to change the color or style of a dance shoe to complete a specific costume "look." Used shoes are on sale at the studio during Open Houses held in September and April.

What is the attendance policy?
Weekly attendance is necessary to provide the reinforcement and continuity of instruction needed to teach an individual the coordinated skills of a dancer. An award will be given at the last class to those students who have perfect attendance.

Can a student make up a missed class?
A make-up class schedule is distributed to each student in early October. This schedule provides flexibility and additional class opportunities for unavoidable absences or for students who would benefit from extra help. After January, it is only possible to offer make-up classes for groups performing the same dance routine in the recital. This schedule is posted in January.

Can parents observe their child's class?
Parents are invited to special observation classes two times during the dance season. The first one is in mid-December and the second coincides with costume distribution week, which is usually 2-3 weeks prior to the recital. Observation day for the spring program is the last class of the session.

What holidays do you observe?
The Dance Inn generally follows the Lexington Public School calendar and snow day policy. Due to the early recital, CLASSES ARE HELD during February vacation. A Calendar for the dance season is distributed in September. Check the calendar or call if you are still unsure.

Does The Dance Inn produce an annual recital?
An annual production is held in March or early April. Students will be notified in September of the exact date. Costumes are ordered in November at which time a deposit of $30 per student is required. Cost is usually between $40 - $60. Tickets for reserved seats are ordered by mail. Performing is a natural culmination of dance study and an important step in growth as a dancer. The focus is on Fun and Pride in doing one's best!
